Dakine Gloves

Dakine was founded in Maui Hawaii in 1979 by Rob Kaplan. He started with an innovative surf leash. The surf leash was popular and led to more surfing related products. The surf on the north shore of Hawaii can be brutal. Dakine, which in Hawaiian slang means "the best" or "the kind", makes every attempt to live up to their name. In 1986 the company relocated to Hood River Oregon. Billabong acquired Dakine in June 2008. Their product lines include quality technical sports accessories. One of their signature product lines are their gloves which are known for warmth and durability.

Dakine gloves fall under 3 categories: skiing and snowboarding, biking, and windsurfing or kitesurfing. An extensive line in each category is available for men, women and children. Dakine gloves also include mittens and liners, which can be used as an everyday cold weather glove or for extra warmth inside some models in extreme weather conditions.

Many Dakine gloves for skiing or snowboarding are made with Gore-Tex, which is waterproof and breathable or Hipora, which is waterproof. Insulation consists of wool liners or Primaloft. The palms are made with leather, Rubbertec or synthetic suede. Varying degrees of warmth and if wrist guards are built in or available are indicated for each glove.

Some of the more popular models are:

Scout

The Scout comes in a glove, a mitt and a short glove version. It is a cold weather glove that comes with a removable fleece liner. All three models are designed with an over the cuff gauntlet to keep snow out of jacket sleeves. They are waterproof but breathable and are insulated with Dakine’s synthetic Thermoloft.

Viper

The Viper is a warmer weather lightweight spring ski glove. The Weathershield™ shell fabric is a weather-resistant material to keep hands warm and dry. They are comfortable on a sunny day on the slopes or as an all around town glove.

The Nova series includes a long and short glove and long mitts for colder conditions. The longer models feature Hipora inserts and taped seams for reliable protection and a one hand cinch gauntlet to help seal out the elements.
